Lagos is one of the coolest cities in the world to live in.

Last week, our dear Lagos city got a bad rep internationally.

Lagos was rated as one of the worst livable cities in the world. Coming behind Damascus, Lagos ranked 145 out of 146 livable cities in the world.
According to the Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2017 Global Liveability Report, Melbourne tops a list of the World’s Most Liveable City for the seventh year running. Cities such as Vienna, Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary completed the top five most liveable cities in 2017.
This sounds like a bit of exaggeration. Yes, Lagos is no Paris but it is no war-torn city either. Lagos has its perks and peculiar beauty that only Lagosians are used to.
Yes, we have all had our bad days in Lagos, but we love this city. On its good day, Lagos is the best city in the world.
Here are five reasons why Lagos is second to none;

1) Owambe parties

No city in the world knows how to throw Owambe parties better than Lagos. The enjoyment, the fun, the music, the food are all unique. You can't get this atmosphere in any other city in the world. Lagos is the capital city of Owambe parties. Every weekend, Lagos comes alive with these culturally colourful parties blessed with live melodious music. If you think you can get this anywhere else in the world, you are joking.

2) Night Life

Banky W once sang "ain't no party like a Lagos party." The nightlife in Lagos is magic, that's the best way to describe it. The night clubs in Lagos go hard. While most night clubs in other parts of the world shut down at night, the clubs here rock till 4 am or even 5 am. We don't take shots here, we buy bottles and we buy out the bar. Sparklers, buckets, and fridges of expensive drinks are uniquely part of the city's nightlife. If you do want to go to clubs there are thousands of night spots where you can hang out and drink depending on your budget. The nightlife in Lagos does not discriminate. It accommodates everyone from rich to poor.

3) The People

Nothing makes a city great more than its people. There are approximately 20 million people in this city. The people in Lagos are the best. They are optimistic, funny, and generally warm people. No matter what life throws at them, they smile and bounce back. Lagosians are resilient but they have not let the grittiness of the city rob them of their smile.

4) The home of Nollywood

Nollywood is one of the biggest movie industries in the world and Lagos is its capital. Lagos is home to the biggest actors in Africa, from Genevieve Nnaji to Ramsey Nouah. Lagos built Nollywood from nothing and today it is entertaining millions of people around the world. No other city is more Nollywood than Lagos.

5) Mega churches

There are at least two churches in most streets in Lagos. Nigeria is a very religious country and you can see that clearly in Lagos. You can't miss them. On some streets, you can have four churches. Not only is Lagos crammed with small churches, it has more than its fair share of mega-churches. Every December, Lagos plays host to one of the biggest gospel concerts- The Experience. If you are a Christian, you would love Lagos.
