Rohr asking Akponguma to choose Nigeria over Germany
Akpoguma, a UEFA U19 Championship winner, has played for Germany at every level between U16 and U21 age groups, but has not represented the senior German side.
With a Nigerian-born father, Akpoguma could potentially play for the Super Eagles at the World Cup next year, and Rohr went to scout out his abilities last weekend.
"I watched him play for Hoffenheim against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. Kevin is an excellent match for the players we are on the lookout for," Rohr told SWR.
"But he'll have to decide soon whether he wants to wear the colours of Nigeria and I'll call him in the next few days."
However, unless Rohr can quickly come up with some persuasive arguments, his trip to Hoffenheim may well have been in vein.
That's based on Akpoguma's response to Rohr's appearance at the Bundesliga match last weekend.
"That honours me, of course, but I'm German, I was born here, so I should play for Germany too," said the 22-year-old, who was born in Neustadt an der Weinstrabe.
